Immersive AV design for London’s most playful social venue

Fairgame: Canary Wharf

This case study looks at how we delivered a high-impact, multi-zone AV solution for Fairgame — an adult funfair concept in the heart of Canary Wharf — combining immersive audio, dynamic lighting, and seamless system control across a large, vibrant, and high-traffic space.

About Fairgame

Fairgame is a bold reimagining of the classic British funfair — designed for grown-ups with a taste for nostalgic games, top-tier street food, and craft cocktails. Located in Canary Wharf, the venue is packed with tech-enhanced takes on traditional fairground games, from Skeeball to Roll-A-Ball Derby, and has become a standout destination for group socials, date nights, and competitive team events.

With high-energy visuals, vibrant theming, and a buzzing food hall featuring names like Burger&Beyond, Rudy’s Pizza, and Taco Collective, Fairgame is anything but average. It’s a place designed for non-stop play — and the atmosphere needed to match. That’s where Middlesex Sound & Lighting came in.

The Project

Fairgame needed an AV solution that would bring its high-concept, high-footfall venue to life. The team behind the project had experienced our work first-hand at Swingers, and came to us knowing we could deliver a smart, immersive system that combined exceptional quality with ease of use.

Our task was to design a full audio and lighting system from the ground up — covering everything from game zones and dancefloor spaces to food areas and exterior lighting. The goal was to create an energetic, fully immersive soundscape that enhanced gameplay, encouraged social interaction, and kept the whole space buzzing – without overwhelming guests.

The Challenges

The venue’s sheer scale was one of the first big challenges. Housed beneath a large commercial building in Canary Wharf, the space featured an expansive footprint, with varied ceiling heights, echo-prone surfaces, and strict building regulations due to its location beneath a major financial institution.

Noise bleed and volume control had to be handled with precision — especially given the open-plan layout and the proximity to surrounding offices. The client also required a fully integrated system that would support everything from background music and game-zone audio, to dynamic lighting and DJ sets — all with minimal training needed for staff.

The Solution

We developed a multi-zone audio system using Martin Audio CDD series loudspeakers and SX112 subwoofers, driven by Powersoft Canali amplification and managed via BSS Soundweb London DSP. The distributed design meant no single area needed high volume — instead, a larger number of compact speakers created even, immersive coverage that kept energy levels high without ever becoming overwhelming.

Each zone was carefully mapped, and ceiling speaker placements were planned with precision to avoid acoustic conflicts and maintain clarity across the venue. We also delivered custom touchscreen interfaces that allowed staff to easily manage zone volumes, input sources, and presets at the touch of a button.

Lighting was equally considered. Moving heads and colour-changing LEDs were installed throughout, including outside the venue where we provided dynamic architectural lighting to highlight the arches and draw attention from afar. Every element was programmed and mapped in-house to ensure seamless interaction and maximum visual impact.

Training and Support

While the backend system is impressively complex, our goal was to make day-to-day operation completely intuitive. We provided hands-on training to the team and designed the control interfaces to be as user-friendly as possible — simplifying source selection and volume control across multiple zones.

We continue to support Fairgame with ongoing maintenance, and we’ve been closely involved in planning AV for the second site — ensuring long-term consistency and future-proofing the setup for future expansion.
