Bespoke VIP nightclub audio and pixel lighting design.

Twenty7: Stratford, London

Twenty7 is a luxury VIP nightclub in Stratford, London – designed to deliver high-impact sound, immersive lighting and a premium late-night experience.

This case study explores how Middlesex Sound & Lighting created a fully bespoke audio and lighting package – including custom-manufactured pixel ceiling panels – engineered for atmosphere, flexibility and long-term remote support.

About Twenty7

Located in Stratford, Twenty7 was conceived as an elevated nightlife destination – a space that blends VIP hospitality with serious club energy.

Operating above an existing venue within the same building, the owners wanted to create something distinctly premium. The brief called for:

  • A high-performance nightclub sound system
  • Dramatic, signature lighting design
  • A layout that maximised impact across a long, narrow dancefloor
  • Seamless control for experienced lighting and audio operators
  • A system robust enough for long-term, high-intensity use

The result is a venue that feels immersive from the moment guests step through the door – or more accurately, from the moment they step onto the stairwell.

The Project

MSL were asked to deliver a full audio and lighting package for the new upstairs nightclub space. Having previously delivered the sound and lighting in the venue below, the team already understood:

  • Landlord acoustic requirements
  • Isolation considerations
  • Property sensitivities on adjacent units
  • Operational expectations from the venue’s ownership

This groundwork allowed the design to be more refined from day one.

The objective was clear: create a VIP luxury experience that felt different to anything else in the local market – technically sophisticated, visually striking and sonically powerful.

The Challenges

Like all the projects MSL undertakes, careful consideration has to be paid to challenges that the installation presents. At Twenty7, those challenges included:

1. Long, Narrow Dancefloor Layout

The geometry of the space required careful speaker distribution. A traditional point-source system would have created hot spots and inconsistent energy across booths and dancefloor areas.

2. Acoustic Responsibility

With neighbouring properties and an existing venue below, low-frequency control and intelligent distribution were essential to prevent bleed while maintaining nightclub impact.

3. Creating a Signature Visual Identity

The client wanted something bespoke – not a standard catalogue nightclub install. The lighting needed to become a defining feature of the venue.

4. Operator-Level Control

Unlike hospitality venues, Twenty7 would be run by experienced DJs and lighting operators. The system had to offer depth and flexibility – without exposing critical infrastructure to accidental error.

The Solution

Here, you can take a more detailed look at the hardware used across the different audio and visual zones within Twenty7:

Audio System

MSL delivered a distributed Martin Audio system engineered for clarity, coverage and controlled impact:

Sound Zones:

  • Front Bar Servery Area – Martin
  • Audio X8 with SX212 subwoofer
  • Middle Area – Martin Audio X8 with SX212 subwoofer
  • Rear Area – Martin Audio X8 with SX212 subwoofer
  • Dedicated DJ Monitoring – Martin Audio X8 monitors
  • Entrance Stairwell – Martin Audio CDD6 speakers

The distributed X8 design ensures consistent energy across booths and dancefloor without overwhelming specific areas.

Subwoofers are carefully positioned to deliver deep, controlled low-frequency impact – maintaining power while respecting acoustic constraints.

The entrance stairwell features its own speaker integration, capturing guests in the atmosphere before they even enter the main space.

Control and amplification include:

  • Optimal Audio 8-zone DSP mixer
  • Optimal Audio zone wall controllers
  • Powersoft Q-series DSP amplifiers
  • Dedicated 19” control rack infrastructure

The result is a powerful but intelligent nightclub system built for longevity.

Bespoke Pixel Lighting & Effects

The headline feature of Twenty7 is its custom Nexus 3D pixel ceiling.

MSL designed and commissioned:

  • 42 bespoke 500mm x 500mm custom pixel panels (Each panel individually controllable)
  • Full MADRIX Ultimate pixel control system
  • 96-universe pixel processing capability
  • Dedicated rackmount PC & control backbone

These panels create dynamic, fully programmable ceiling effects – sweeping pixel movement, colour waves and high-impact scene transitions.

Additional lighting includes:

  • 8 x Chauvet Intimidator Spot
  • 260X moving heads
  • 200m+ of high-brightness RGBW LED tape across bar ceilings and counters
  • 24 x 300-degree RGBW LED tubes
  • Architectural wall wash lighting
  • Integrated drivers, decoders and power distribution

The lighting system transforms the venue throughout the night – from refined VIP ambience to full-scale club spectacle.

Training & Support

Because Twenty7 operates as a serious nightclub environment, the control philosophy differs from ease-of-use hospitality installs.

MSL tailored user access to match operator skill level:

  • Advanced control tools available for lighting professionals
  • Controlled permissions to protect system integrity
  • Remote dial-in support capability
  • Backup restoration functionality

If adjustments or updates are needed, MSL can access and support the venue remotely – ensuring performance continuity without unnecessary downtime. Of course, being relatively close to our head office also means we can provide on-site support too – if required.

Why Middlesex Sound & Lighting?

Twenty7 chose the team at MSL because of our prior experience within the building and our proven expertise in nightclub audio systems. Just as importantly, we were able to design and manufacture bespoke lighting features that complemented the venue’s identity while ensuring the system met strict acoustic compliance requirements.

With full design, installation and commissioning handled in-house, the project was delivered as a seamless, integrated solution. Our ability to provide ongoing remote support also gives the client confidence that the system will continue performing at its best long after installation.

The result is a venue that doesn’t just play music – it performs.
